There are now 1000 copies of Emerald’s Big Discovery sitting at my front door. At first, I didn’t want to move them, as that tower of boxes reminded me that I have work to do. It kind of frightened me, thinking about it. Now, not so much.
I’m going to finally move those boxes to the basement…all but one. One box at a time, I will spread Emerald’s story. It’s a good story to spread. It’s a good message for us all, not just those in the 3-8 age category.
Find your true colour and relish it. Know that there are things that only you can contribute to this world. Do not listen to the naysayers that spout a truth different than yours. They have their own path to follow. Joy and fulfillment are available if you would just listen to that voice, deep inside you, that knows the truth. The truth that you are magnificent. You are worthy. You are boundless. You are loved.
Amen and namaste my friends…

Our launch was a great success, with so many fabulous people there to support us. Our initial run of 250 books is almost gone, and a big run will be coming in the new year. It’s all so surreal and fabulous and unbelievable. Life is very good, my friends.

It’s the day before our launch party and I’m taking a moment to chill before hitting the road again. If this book would have come even 2 years ago, I would be frantic, worried, and doubting myself. Today, I am calm, happy, and sitting in my PJ’s, drinking tea, and thinking about getting my grocery list ready for the party. And writing to you. Our Etsy store is up and running with a few orders already! Yay! (Just click on our link Emerald’s Big Discovery ) Only 60 books left of the original 250, so it looks like a second, larger printing will be coming in January. Yay!

I’ve been running the roads, visiting small, local stores to see if they would like to take on Emerald, and so far, 8 have agreed! Yay! The amount of love and support that has come my way has been overwhelming, and I am savouring every minute. I’m also not deterred by the rejections. Emerald will go where she is supposed to…I know this deep down in inside. This journey is a privilege, and I am so grateful to be part of it. There are no doubts in my mind…

So the books have arrived and the scramble has begun getting ready for the launch party. I’m flying by the seat of my pants with no idea what I am doing, but it’s exciting and fun and I’m having a blast! I won’t look at my credit card bill until I have at least sold a few, so on that note, if you are interested, you can contact me at emeraldsbigdiscovery@gmail.com and I can send you one (or two) and you can etransfer me the funds. It’s 12.99 Canadian, plus shipping. We’ll also be opening an Etsy store soon, so I’ll keep you posted.
This is a great book for kids from ages 3-7ish…its so important for our children to grow up discovering their own unique gifts and using them to make this world of ours a better place. So many kids beat themselves up because they don’t fit what a society or culture mandates. I believe that we are all gifted, and when we discover our unique me-ness, only good things can follow.
I hope you enjoy it…and thanks.

About 2 years ago, I was lying in bed, communing with the universe, when a story showed up. It wasn’t an idea for a story, or a partial, vague story, but a complete story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. A children’s story. And sharp cookie that I am, I thought ‘Ha, that’s neat’, and promptly forgot about it and went on with my day.
But here’s the thing…that story wouldn’t leave me alone. So I told a friend about it. And they liked it. They said ‘You should publish it.’ Huh. Really? And the days and weeks went by, and every once in a while, I would tell someone else the story. And they liked it too. Eventually I felt compelled to tell the story to just about everyone I talked to. I started to think I needed to write it down. So I did. And as I was writing it down, I Googled ‘how to publish a book’. I emailed publishers. Lots of publishers. No answer. I offered money if someone would just give me some time to tell me what to do. No answer.
Eventually, I found an author who had self-published his own children’s books, and he was kind enough to point me in the right direction. And as I was making headway, it became glaringly obvious that I needed an illustrator, since my stick figures weren’t really cutting it. Enter my niece. She jumped in with both feet and a bucket load of talent and made fabulous, fun drawings that make me laugh and cry.
So here we are, almost 2 years after that story showed up, and I am about a week away from having the printed book in my hands. I am self-publishing, and am having 250 copies of ‘Emerald’s Big Discovery’ made. Not a cheap proposition, but I have faith.
This story is a gift, and I know that I have to share it. I trust that it will reach who it is supposed to, whether that be 1 person, 100 people, or 1,000. I know, deep down inside, that I am doing the right thing.
I am incredibly excited. A bit scared. I have no idea what I am doing, but the doors keep opening and I just keep on walking through them. The kindness of others is overwhelming. I am incredibly blessed. Wish me luck, and I’ll keep you posted.
I heard the story first hand and I love it! Good luck, I know it will sell out!
